The Llanthony Valley and District Show Hedging Match is held annually in the autumn.  The exact date and location changes from year to year. Spectators welcome.

The competition is a chance for local craftsmen and women to show off their talents.  Novices, professionals, and aspiring youngsters alike, can all display their skills.  With local and open classes, all competitors are welcome.

Prizes for all classes: 1st - £50, 2nd - £30, 3rd - £20
Special Prizes for:
  • Best local - £25
  • Youngest (under 19 years) - £25
  • Best regrowth from previous year - £40 (Cup donated by John Williams)
  • Attendance money for non-prize winners - £10

Open          Any style hedge
Trophy: Matthew Knight Memorial shield
Class 2
Open          Farmer's Hedge (Novice)
(not having won a first prize in any hedging competition)
Trophy: Graham Smith Memorial Cup
Class 3
Open          Young Farmer's Hedge          22 - 28 years
Trophy: STT Secure shield
Class 4
Open          Young Farmer's Hedge          19 - 21 years
Class 5
​Open          Young Farmer's Hedge          18 years and under
Trophy: Vere Smith Trophy
The Society wishes to thank:

There  will be a separate Dry Stone Walling Competition for stone walls built on properties in the local area in the past five years.

Trophy: Mr and Mrs Godfrey Williams Challenge Cup for dry stone walls.

Mortar stone walls will be awarded The Joshua Cup.

​These classes will have been  judged prior to the Show - photos of entries and results will be displayed on the day of the Show.
