Wilf Davies, the long standing local Valley farmer and Show Pony Breeder has died at the age of 97.
As one of the original Founders of the Show, Wilf was a figure of utmost importance to us all.
He was in the pub with five others back in 1961, when they decided to have a whip round to raise the cash to start the first Show (though someone also added in some ewes and lambs for sale as well!). They then asked him if he would have the first year’s Show on his ground at Noyadd Llwyd. Wilf said yes, without thinking how big the event was going to be, and that he would still have to be doing it 32 years later!
Wilf was a typical example of someone who freely gave his support, energy and commitment to the lives of all of us here in the Llanthony Valley.
The Show is held at Court Farm, Llanthony with the kind permission of Colin and Cordelia Passmore
The Show, which commences at 8.30am, will be officially opened by the Show President at 1.30pm
